Scarlet Oak Tavern has been a proud supporter of Boston Bakes for Cancer for many years. This year however, our participation took poignant turn, when we consulted our pastry chef, Julie Barnes, about creating a dessert for the week of May 2-8. On the very day we asked her about her Boston Bakes for Cancer dessert, she was leaving work early to attend a wake for a close friend of her who recently succumbed to breast cancer.
Julie’s friend, Marisa Federico, was well known in the South Shore area. No one will forget her love of family and the city of Boston. She was an active participant of athletic charity events and enjoyed nature and the outdoors. She is already very sorely missed.
Given Marisa’s Italian heritage, this gorgeous pink-layered tiramisu seemed like a perfect tribute to Julie’s dear friend.
100 % of our Tiramisu Rosa sales May 2 – May 8 will be donated to Boston Bakes for Cancer which benefits breast cancer research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
